Kitten Vaccinations

Starting your new kitten off right with an exam and vaccines is important. Kittens have lower immunity than adults and are more susceptible to disease.

When do kittens get their first shots?

We recommend the first vaccines be given at 8 weeks of age.

How often do my kittens need vaccines?

Every 4 weeks, at 8, 12, and 16 weeks.

Does my kitten need only core vaccines?

We generally recommend kittens receive FeLV and Rabies vaccines as well as FVRCP due to the possibility of those wiley babies escaping outside and due to the increased susceptibility of kittens to FELV, which is an incurable and often fatal disease.

Are there any risks associated with vaccines?

Vaccine reactions are possible but rare. Which can be just mild lethargy and a slight fever, or very rarely they can have an allergic-type reaction which can cause vomiting, diarrhea, or trouble breathing.
